4 REASONS WHY BEACHES ARE GREAT FOR THE BODY

BEACHES ARE GREAT FOR THE BODY. When summer strolls along, one of the first words that enters many minds is the beach. That wonderful sandy place that embodies the ideal of vacation and relaxation. But while many of us are already familiar with the benefits of vacationing on the shore, here are some that may surprise you.

The beach provides several health benefits for the skin
Sand, which is usually abundant near the shore, acts an effective exfoliant. The sensation isn’t the most pleasant, but sand does effectively scrape away dead skin cells.

Being closer to the ocean also helps clean out your pores. Sunlight naturally causes skin pores to open and the nearby salt sair helps remove any toxins present. Further, the iodine and salt found in water can clean bacteria, excess oil, or other common causes of skin trouble.

Just don’t try to clean open wounds with seawater. There could be other organisms present that could enter the wound and lead to possible infection.

Get an easy dose of Vitamin-D
The sun, in addition to helping fuel most of the life on our planet, also is a great source of Vitamin-D. The best part is that all you have to do is stand outside and our skin absorbs the rest (with an appropriate amount of sunscreen, though).

According to National Institutes of Science, “Vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations to enable normal mineralization of bone and to prevent hypocalcemic tetany.”

Breathe easier on the beach
Ever notice how you breathe deeper when you’re out in nature? Well, there’s a science for that.

Typically, your body responds to better air quality with deeper, fuller breathing. In areas like the beach, the air is charged with negative ions that help boost oxygen absorption in the lungs. A trip to the beach is exactly what asthmatics and those diagnosed with COPD need.

The beach is a nature-made exercise machine
This one may seem a bit obvious, but it’s still true. The fact that you walk on sand requires more effort than walking on solid land. Being by water provides many opportunities for activity, whether it’s swimming, playing volleyball, running, or building a sand castle.

These are but a few reasons why heading seaside can do more than get you out of the house. Part of the reason we love the beach is because of how good it makes you feel. You could even say it’s a spiritual experience.
